Ashish Ranjan & Ors vs Union of India & Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court approved detailed time schedules issued by the Medical Council of India governing the establishment of new medical colleges, renewal of permissions, opening of new courses, and admission processes for MBBS and postgraduate medical programmes. These schedules, made under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, prescribe deadlines for application receipt, processing, and admission completion. The Court mandated that all States, their stakeholders, AIIMS, and PGI must strictly follow the schedules without deviation. The Court also allowed a limited extension for result declaration by the National Board of Examination due to natural calamity in Tamil Nadu, while keeping counselling dates unchanged.
