The appellants were convicted under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act for cheque dishonour. However, after the High Court judgment and before this appeal, the parties settled their dispute and the cheque amount was paid. The Supreme Court, in the interest of complete justice, allowed the appeal and set aside the conviction and sentence. The appellants were directed to pay Rs. 10,000 as costs to the State Legal Services Authority.
