In Brief
Bhupender Singh appealed the High Court's reversal of a divorce decree originally granted by the Trial Court on grounds of cruelty. When the matter came before the Supreme Court, both parties amicably settled their entire matrimonial dispute. The Court found that the parties had independently and consciously decided to dissolve their marriage by mutual consent. The appellant paid Rs. 8 lakh as agreed settlement. The Supreme Court allowed the appeal and granted a decree of divorce on mutual consent, with the parties bound by the joint application terms and prohibited from initiating further proceedings against each other."
