In Brief
In this case, the Supreme Court allowed a husband's appeal against a High Court judgment that had reversed a Trial Court's divorce decree. After the Supreme Court directed the parties to appear before it, the husband and wife amicably settled their matrimonial dispute and jointly applied for a mutual consent divorce. The husband paid ₹8 lakh to the wife as part of the settlement. The Court, satisfied that both parties independently and consciously chose to dissolve their marriage, granted a divorce decree by mutual consent. Both parties agreed not to initiate any further civil or criminal proceedings against each other.
