Board of Control for Cricket in India and Ors vs Cricket Association of Bihar & Ors

Bench: 3 — D.Y. Chandrachud

In Brief

The Supreme Court finalized the Constitution of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) based on the Lodha Committee reforms. The Court modified the one-state-one-vote principle to grant full membership to all major state cricket associations in Maharashtra and Gujarat that field Ranji Trophy teams, recognizing their historical contributions. Railways, Services, and Universities were also granted full membership with safeguards against government influence. The Court increased the Selection Committee from three to five members to enable comprehensive talent evaluation across the nation. A three-year cooling-off period was mandated after office bearers complete two consecutive terms to prevent power concentration. The approved Constitution was directed to be registered under Tamil Nadu law, with state associations required to register similar constitutions within 30 days.">
