Budha Ram vs State of Rajasthan

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Budha Ram was convicted of attempting to murder Ghewar Ram and illegally possessing firearms. The lower court sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment plus a fine for the murder attempt, and an additional 3 years for the weapons offence. The Supreme Court found the combined sentence excessive, considering he had already spent approximately 8 years and 8 months in custody. The Court reduced his sentence to the period already undergone and directed that the fine be paid to the injured party. He was ordered to be released immediately.
