C. Sathyanarayan etc vs Vaddi Sreenivasulu and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Two injured persons challenged a High Court decision that had set aside a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal's award for insufficient jurisdiction. The Tribunal had awarded Rs. 2,53,400 to one claimant and Rs. 1,01,000 to another, holding the vehicle owner liable because the driver lacked a proper license for the vehicle type. The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, restoring the Tribunal's award and rejecting the jurisdiction objection. It ordered deposit of the awarded amounts within twelve weeks; if delayed, interest would accrue at 9% per annum instead of the original 6%."
