The Supreme Court disposed of appeals filed by an agricultural research institute challenging a Labour Court's wage award. The institute proposed a one-time settlement scheme to resolve the dispute while leaving unresolved the legal question of whether it constitutes an 'industry' under the Industrial Disputes Act. The Court accepted this approach and directed implementation of the scheme in place of the award, while preserving workers' rights to pursue any remaining grievances through appropriate channels. Disbursement was ordered before Diwali 2016."
