Central Bank of India vs Husainy Fakhruddin and Others

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

The Central Bank of India appealed against a High Court order directing it to release deposits made by four respondents. The Bank had frozen these deposits following a December 2005 CBI request to withhold the funds pending investigation. When the case reached the Supreme Court, the CBI informed the bench that it had withdrawn its withholding request and had no objection to release of the amounts. The Court disposed of the appeal, directing the Bank to release the deposits within a week, as the primary reason for withholding had been removed. No costs were awarded.
