Committee of Management Anuragi Devi Degree College & Anr vs State of U.P. & Anr

Bench: 2 — Dipak Misra

In Brief

A college sought affiliation for the 2015-16 academic session but failed to meet the deadline prescribed in the State's time schedule. When the University refused to grant affiliation and the college admitted students without it, the college petitioned for a writ of mandamus. The Supreme Court upheld the dismissal, holding that the strict time schedule set by prior Court judgments cannot be breached. However, the Court allowed the University to reconsider the affiliation application within four weeks, with admitted students to be recognized if affiliation is granted—provided no further admissions occur.
