In Brief
In this case, the Supreme Court heard an appeal by Devi Singh against his conviction for causing injuries under Sections 326 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code. The victim, Chunni Lal, died from his injuries sustained in a 1995 altercation. The Court upheld the conviction under Section 326 but noted that the conviction under Section 324 should arguably have placed him on par with other accused since his injuries contributed to the death. However, lacking a State appeal, the Court did not disturb this conviction. The Court reduced the sentence under Section 324 from three years to two years, considering the passage of 23 years and circumstances. The appeal was partly allowed.
