The Supreme Court dismissed review petitions filed by Judicial Officers challenging their seniority placement in the District Judge cadre. The petitioners contended that 47 officers promoted in 2010 and officers directly recruited or appointed through lateral entry on 15.07.2013 should be ranked according to cyclic order as they were part of the same selection process. The Court held that substantive promotions granted in 2010 constituted a separate process from direct recruitment in 2013. Officers entering the cadre more than three years earlier were correctly placed senior to later appointees, following the principle established in K. Meghachandra Singh case."
