In this matter, the Supreme Court considered a Special Leave Petition filed by the Director of Income Tax-I, New Delhi against Nortel Networks India International Inc. The Court found sufficient cause for the delay in filing and accordingly condoned it. Subsequently, the Court granted leave to appeal and directed the petition to be tagged as a civil appeal, permitting the substantive merits of the case to be heard in the normal appeal proceedings.
