Supreme Court of India 2018-06-13 disposed

Disha Panchal and Others vs Union of India the Secretary and Others

Bench: 2 — Uday Umesh Lalit

In Brief

The Supreme Court rejected the complete cancellation of CLAT 2018 despite widespread technical failures (login glitches, frozen screens, power failures) that caused eligible candidates to lose examination time. Instead, the Court directed a normalization formula to compensate the 4,690 affected candidates: based on each candidate's answering efficiency and success rate, the formula calculates how many additional questions they would have answered had there been no time loss, and revises their scores accordingly. The revised merit list will be implemented in the second and subsequent counselling rounds. Existing rank-holders remain unaffected; additional beneficiaries receive supernumerary seats with modified ranks (51A, 51B, etc.)."
