In Brief
The Maharashtra State Electricity Board appealed against an Industrial Court order directing regularization or reinstatement of daily wage workers. The respondents had worked as daily wage labourers for over 25 years. The Court held that although Uma Devi restricts regularization generally, the peculiar circumstances here—including the workers' long service and the Board's own regularization of similarly situated workers with equal or lesser tenure—justified the regularization order. The appeal was disposed with directions for the Board to reconsider the respondents' cases in light of parity with similarly treated workers.
