A father was acquitted by the Trial Court for killing his pregnant daughter after she married into a lower caste. The High Court reversed the acquittal and convicted him. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction, finding the sole eyewitness credible and corroborated by recovery of a blood-stained sickle and forensic evidence. The Court rejected arguments about witness reliability and nature of injuries. Finding no exception under Section 300 of the IPC applied, the Court enhanced the conviction from culpable homicide (Section 304) to murder (Section 302), sentencing the appellant to life imprisonment in this honour killing case.
