In Brief
The Supreme Court addressed the eligibility of reserved category candidates who availed age relaxation to be treated as general category candidates in police recruitment. The appellant reserved candidates with age relaxation were migrated to general category vacancies under circular dated 11.05.2011. The Court held that the circular dated 24.06.2008, which explicitly prohibited migration of candidates who availed age relaxation, was the applicable policy since recruitment commenced before the 2011 circular was issued. Therefore, such candidates could not be migrated to general vacancies. The Court allowed the appeals and directed the State to appoint general category candidates wrongly excluded due to illegal migration.
