In Brief
The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority challenged an interim order of the High Court requiring deposit of enhanced land compensation pending final resolution of appeals. The Land Acquisition Officer had awarded Rs. 1.36 crore per acre, which a Reference Court increased to approximately Rs. 3.87 crore. The High Court ordered deposit of Rs. 3.50 crores per acre. The Supreme Court allowed the appeals in part, modifying the interim order to require deposit of the full awarded sum, permit withdrawal of 50% on furnishing security, invest 50% in fixed deposits, and adjust both amounts with accrued interest after final determination of the appeals. The Court urged expedited final disposal."
