In Brief
This suo moto petition addresses the appointment and training of Public Prosecutors handling cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO), 2012. The Court recognized that specialized prosecutors are essential for POCSO cases because they must be trained not only in law but also in child psychology, trauma-informed practices, and techniques to sensitively elicit testimony from child victims. The Court directed all States to appoint exclusive Public Prosecutors in all dedicated POCSO Courts to ensure competent, child-centric case handling beyond ordinary legal training.
