In Brief
Two criminals, Ishwari Lal Yadav and Kiran Bai, who ran a tantric cult, kidnapped and brutally murdered a two-year-old boy, Chirag Rajput, as a human sacrifice in November 2010. The child's head was severed and his body buried in their house. When neighbours discovered the body after hearing loud music from the house, the accused confessed their crime. The couple had previously murdered a six-year-old girl in identical circumstances. The Supreme Court upheld their death sentences as a 'rarest of rare case', finding the crime extremely brutal and the accused irredeemable. However, co-accused were acquitted of conspiracy charges for lack of consistent evidence of their participation.
