In Brief
The Supreme Court considered consolidated civil appeals challenging land acquisition of 1407 acres in Gurgaon for residential and commercial sectors. While a notification was issued for 1407 acres and a declaration for 850 acres, the acquisition collector awarded only 87 acres, with approximately 95% of notified land subsequently released, allegedly to private builders. Appellants contended the acquisition was mala fide and colourable. The Court, finding serious allegations of bad faith, directed CBI investigation to be completed within six months and assured objective consideration of any land release representations."
