Jalbir Singh vs State of Haryana and Ors

Bench: 2 — 2

In Brief

Jalbir Singh was convicted under Sections 302/34 IPC and sentenced to life imprisonment. He appealed the High Court's refusal to suspend his sentence and grant bail. The Supreme Court noted that Singh had served over one year in custody, the High Court had previously permitted him to renew his bail prayer after one year (nearly over), the co-accused wife had been granted bail by the same High Court, and appeal disposal would take further time. The Court set aside the High Court's order and granted bail to Singh pending appeal, permitting the trial court to impose appropriate conditions."
