In Brief
Jeetendra, arrested in January 2019 for alleged document forgery in connection with a matrimonial bail matter from 2008, challenged his denial of bail by the High Court despite two police closure reports stating he committed no offence. The Supreme Court held that bail is the rule, not the exception, and should never be mechanically denied. The High Court erred in refusing bail merely because the trial court had not yet accepted the second closure report. Given the appellant's over one year in custody and the investigative findings, the Court set aside the High Court's order and granted him absolute bail.
