Supreme Court of India 2017-02-13 disposed

Bench: 7 — <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

This judgment concerns a Suo Motu Contempt Petition against Justice C.S. Karnan of the High Court. Despite due notice, Justice Karnan failed to appear in person on the scheduled hearing date. The Supreme Court rejected attempts by unauthorized counsel to appear on his behalf or file impleadment applications. The Court held that contempt proceedings are strictly between the Court and the alleged contemnor, and directed Justice Karnan to appear in person at the next hearing while warning that unauthorized representations would invite contempt proceedings themselves. The interim order was continued."
