The Supreme Court exercised suo motu jurisdiction to transfer five criminal cases involving sexual assault allegations from CBI Court, Lucknow to District Judge West, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi. The Court directed that investigation be completed within seven days (extendable to a fortnight), and that trial be completed within 45 days. An interim compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs was ordered to be paid to the victim, and comprehensive security measures through the CRPF were mandated for the victim, her family members, and related persons. The Court also ordered an inquiry into Registry lapses in handling the victim family's original petition.
