In Brief
The Supreme Court issued comprehensive procedural guidelines to address large amounts of unclaimed compensation lying deposited with Motor Accident Claims Tribunals and Labour Courts under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923. The Court held that claimants must furnish verified bank account details, enabling direct transfer of compensation. High Courts must create a centralized dashboard to track all unclaimed amounts and conduct targeted drives through Legal Services Authorities to locate entitled but unreached claimants. State Governments are directed to frame uniform rules for claim applications. Implementation compliance is due by 30 July 2025.
