Justice K.S. Puttaswamy (Retd.) and Anr vs Union of India & Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Justice K.S. Puttaswamy challenged the mandatory requirement of Aadhar Cards to access social welfare scheme benefits. The petitioner sought clarification that welfare services should continue uninterrupted for those without Aadhar Cards pending resolution. The Government (Union of India) relied on an Office Memorandum extending the cut-off date until 30 September 2017 for non-Aadhar holders. The Court, noting these administrative steps and the related decision in Binoy Viswam v. Union of India, found no further observation necessary at that stage and adjourned the matter for the appropriate Bench to hear on 7 July 2017.
