K. Amarnath Reddy & Ors vs Chairman & Managing Director, A.P.S.P.D.C.L. & Ors. Etc. Etc

Bench: 2 — L. Nageswara Rao

In Brief

This case concerns the validity of appointments of Junior Linemen in Andhra Pradesh electricity companies. The Supreme Court set aside a High Court judgment that had re-examined and invalidated earlier selections and regularized appointments made pursuant to 2006-2008 proceedings. The Court held that the High Court erred in reopening settled appointments after a final Division Bench judgment had approved them. While the Court acknowledged that appointments beyond 7114 advertised posts were technically irregular, they were justified as implementation of earlier High Court directions addressing essential service disruptions. The Court upheld the regularized appointments but directed that future recruitment strictly comply with law.
