K.K. Jha "Kamal" was convicted of criminal contempt by the Jharkhand High Court and sentenced to six months imprisonment. The Supreme Court found that the Bar Council of India had dropped proceedings against him due to serious ill-health and an accident, and noted his inability to practise. Having regard to these extraordinary circumstances and the interest of justice, the Court made the interim stay of sentence absolute and vacated the imprisonment portion of the order, while partly allowing the appeal. The conviction for contempt itself was not overturned.
