K.K. Jha "Kamal" was convicted of criminal contempt by the Jharkhand High Court and sentenced to six months imprisonment. The Supreme Court had earlier stayed the sentence. After considering that the Bar Council of India dropped proceedings against him due to serious ill-health from an accident, and noting his deteriorated health condition, the Supreme Court partly allowed the appeal. It made the interim stay absolute and vacated the imprisonment sentence, while maintaining the conviction itself, finding this was in the interest of justice.
