K. Ramalingam appealed against a High Court judgment dated 26 October 2016 in an Original Side Appeal. The Supreme Court referred the parties to mediation before the Tamil Nadu Mediation Centre. The parties subsequently reached an amicable settlement and submitted a Memorandum of Settlement dated 13 March 2018. The Court accepted the settlement and disposed of the appeal in its terms, treating the Memorandum as part of the order. All pending applications were also disposed of, with no orders as to costs.
