On 8 April 1980, a dispute over payment for a buffalo led to an armed attack in Uttar Pradesh that killed Brahmapal Singh and injured Mahendra Singh. The appellant Karan Singh was convicted of murder under sections 302/149 IPC and given life imprisonment. He appealed claiming no weapon was recovered from him and one injured witness did not name him. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction, finding that two eyewitnesses (PW2 and PW3) established his presence with a rifle. Minor discrepancies in testimony do not negate credible eyewitness corroboration. The prosecution discharged its burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt, and concurrent findings of guilt by lower courts should not be lightly disturbed.
