In Brief
A family of a deceased man struck by a negligent lorry driver while riding a bicycle sought enhanced compensation. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal awarded Rs. 3,19,000, later enhanced by the High Court to Rs. 5,76,500. The Supreme Court recalculated compensation using the prescribed methodology: annual income (Rs. 36,000), dependent deduction for four dependents, 11-year multiplier, 10% future prospects, and conventional damages of Rs. 77,000, totaling Rs. 5,67,050 plus interest of Rs. 4,84,618 (reduced for 704-day delay in filing), to Rs. 10,51,668. The appeal was allowed and compensation enhanced accordingly.
