In Brief
The Supreme Court heard consolidated civil appeals challenging the withdrawal of pensionary benefits granted to alleged freedom fighters by Maharashtra State. The appellants had obtained these pensions using forged documents, which the State subsequently cancelled. The Court, applying the reasoning from its earlier similar order in a batch of related appeals, restored the benefits in light of the appellants' advanced age and hardship, but limited the benefits to the appellants alone, excluding their legal heirs. Arrears of Rs. 3,000 per appellant were awarded. The appeals were disposed of accordingly.
