In Brief
Petitioners claiming to be protected tenants under the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Land Act, 1948 filed multiple Special Leave Petitions challenging a High Court order dismissing their tenancy applications. Over three decades of litigation, they failed to consistently prove their possession and cultivation of the disputed plots as on the required date (01.04.1957). Critical inconsistencies existed between gut numbers in original applications and survey numbers in later evidence. The Supreme Court held that despite numerous opportunities, the petitioners never produced convincing evidence. The High Court's decision to dismiss their revision petitions was upheld as justified, refusing to remand for further inquiry given the prolonged litigation history and repeated evidentiary failures.
