In Brief
On 5 January 2022, the Prime Minister's convoy became stuck on a flyover in Punjab for 20 minutes, exposing a serious security breach. An NGO petitioned the Supreme Court for investigation and accountability. Rather than allowing competing inquiries by the State and Central Government, the Court appointed an independent Enquiry Committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge Indu Malhotra to investigate the causes of the breach, identify responsible officials, and recommend measures to prevent recurrence. The Court suspended rival inquiries and directed full cooperation from all agencies while the Committee completes its investigation."
