In Brief
The Supreme Court set aside a High Court order that had quashed a Central Government debarment of a medical college (G.C.R.G. Memorial Trust) for the 2017–2018 academic year. The High Court had violated explicit Supreme Court directions limiting its jurisdiction. The Court found the college guilty of serious negligence in patient care—including discharging severely anaemic patients untreated and admitting non-cardiac patients to cardiac ICUs—and habitual violation of court orders. The Court upheld the two-year debarment for 2017–18 and 2018–19, directed compensation to aggrieved students, and imposed costs of Rs. 25 lakhs as punishment for the college's contempt of court and judicial impropriety.
