In this case, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction and life sentences of five accused persons for conspiracy to wage war against the Government of India under Section 121-A of the Indian Penal Code. The accused, allegedly affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba, held meetings in 2003 where they agreed to acquire explosives and firearms to destabilize the government. Though minutes of these meetings were in Kannada, handwriting experts identified the accused's signatures. Large quantities of bombs, detonators, and inflammatory literature were recovered. Despite hostile prosecution witnesses, courts found the evidence—minutes, recoveries, and literature—together established a conspiracy to 'overawe' the government. The Court held Section 121-A conspiracy need not involve actual violent acts; agreement itself suffices.
