In Brief
The appellant was convicted of attempting to murder a victim under Indian Penal Code sections 307 and 114, and for illegal possession of a firearm under the Arms Act. He appealed the conviction and sentence. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction and sentence, finding sufficient incriminating evidence including: the victim's bullet wound, forensic linking of the recovered bullet to the weapon found upon the appellant's confession, credible eye-witness testimony from the victim and complainant (corroborated by identification parades), and identification by the witness present during the weapon's recovery. Time gaps in recollection and practical limitations on chain of custody evidence did not diminish the reliability of the conviction. The appeal was dismissed.
