Neera Yadav, then Chairperson-CEO of NOIDA, was convicted of criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act for abusing her official position to obtain land allotments for herself and her two daughters. She submitted an undated, defective application after the scheme's closure and used an ante-dated cheque. She obtained a plot in Sector-32 (300 sq.m.), had it converted to Sector-14A (450 sq.m.), then enlarged it by 112.5 sq.m. through unauthorized layout modifications. She also secured shops and residential plots for her daughters using their names despite them being dependent on her and incapable of independent payment. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction and three-year sentence but reduced it to two years, considering mitigating circumstances. It rejected concurrent sentencing, finding the crimes involved separate transactions warranting consecutive imprisonment terms.
