In Brief
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals by 139 MBBS students whose admissions were cancelled after it was discovered they had obtained entry through a large-scale fraud conspiracy involving manipulation of Pre-Medical Test examination systems, collusion with government officials, and help from external meritorious candidates. Rejecting arguments that their "knowledge" acquired during medical training should be preserved in the larger public interest and citing national character and the rule of law, the Court held that fraud vitiates all transactions and cannot be legitimized under Article 142 of the Constitution, even when doing complete justice is invoked. The Court emphasized that no benefit obtained through fraud can be sustained.
