In Brief
The Supreme Court clarified its earlier judgment on the validity of engineering degrees awarded by deemed universities through distance education mode. While rejecting most applications for exemption, the Court held that the fundamental infirmity in such degrees cannot be waived despite candidates' career advancement. However, as a one-time exception for candidates enrolled in 2001–2005, those appearing for the AICTE test in May–June 2018 may retain their degrees and benefits until the result declaration or 31 July 2018 if they pass on the first attempt. The Court also clarified that diploma courses were not covered by the judgment. All applications were disposed with no costs awarded."
