Modi claimed he fell within the definition of "teacher" and should retire at 62. The High Court ruled against him. The Supreme Court allowed his appeal, holding that the definition of "teacher" in the Act is expansive and inclusive, covering anyone appointed to impart instructions, including physical education instructors. The Court directed payment of all consequential benefits and arrears as if Modi had continued working until age 62.
