In Brief
The Supreme Court examined a writ petition challenging the evaluation in a Civil Judge (Junior Division) recruitment examination in Haryana. From over 34,000 applicants, only 1,195 appeared in the main examination, yet only 9 were declared fit for viva-voce. The Court, concerned about the fairness of evaluation, requested retired Supreme Court Justice A.K. Sikri to independently review a selection of answer scripts. The matter was listed for post-summer vacation to allow assessment of whether the original evaluation met constitutional standards of fairness and equal treatment.
