Two men attacked a relative with axes while he was levelling land on his property, inflicting severe head injuries. The victim died 20 days later from complications. The appellants argued the death resulted from medical complications, not the injuries, and sought conviction for culpable homicide instead of murder. The Supreme Court upheld the murder conviction, holding that the injuries were directly linked to death and that the armed attack on a vital body part showed premeditation and cruelty. Exceptions for provocation and sudden quarrel did not apply. The lapse of time between injury and death was not determinative of liability.
