In Brief
A neurosurgeon's wife died in July 2015; her death was certified as natural (heart failure) by a doctor, and her parents, upon learning of her death, agreed to cremation without post-mortem. Over a month later, an anonymous letter to police accused the husband of murder to obtain insurance money. The High Court rejected his anticipatory bail application. The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, holding that where the deceased's own family did not suspect foul play, registered no complaint, and swore affidavits affirming natural death, and the accused had no criminal record and cooperated with police, bail should be granted as justice required.
