Prassanna Venkardari Agrahar vs State of Maharashtra

Bench: 2 — S. Abdul Nazeer

In Brief

A doctor accused of causing his wife's death in suspicious circumstances sought anticipatory bail after the High Court rejected his application. The wife had died in July 2015 of a suspected heart attack; her parents confirmed her death was natural and did not lodge a complaint. Police began investigating only after receiving an anonymous letter months later. The Supreme Court found the High Court was wrong to reject the bail application. Given that immediate family members had affirmed the death was natural, no formal complaint was filed, the accused cooperated with police, and he had no criminal record, the Court granted anticipatory bail on conditions including a personal bond of one lakh rupees.
