PRAVEEN SINGH RAMAKANT BHADAURIYA vs NEELAM PRAVEEN SINGH BHADAURIYA

Bench: 2 — R. Banumathi, S. Abdul Nazeer

In Brief

A husband appealed against the dismissal of his divorce petition by the Family Court, District Court, and High Court. When the case reached the Supreme Court, the parties underwent mediation and reached an amicable settlement. The Court exercised its extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to dissolve the marriage and enforce the agreed terms: the husband would pay Rs. 10 lakhs as full settlement of maintenance claims, Rs. 3 lakhs (within 3 months) for the daughter's education and marriage expenses, and Rs. 1 lakh at the daughter's marriage. All pending cases between the parties were to be withdrawn. Non-compliance with these terms would constitute contempt of court.
