Rai Sabyasachi and Anr vs Union of India and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court examined a challenge to the maximum age limit of 25 years for NEET examination eligibility. The petitioners argued that no formal Regulation from the Medical Council of India supported the age restriction, which was imposed by administrative notice. The Court held that such an age limit cannot be fixed through notice alone without proper regulatory framework. It extended the application deadline to 5 April 2017 to permit all eligible candidates to apply, and directed district authorities to provide logistical support for additional examination centres. The matter was listed for final hearing after the examinations concluded."
