Rajesh Rekwar vs State (NCT of Delhi)

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

On 14 August 2004, two men were murdered in New Delhi by an assailant who also stole valuables and a car. The appellant was arrested and convicted of murder and theft based on a fingerprint match, recovery of keys and stolen goods from his possession, and other circumstances. Although only one of his fingerprints matched those found at the scene, and there was a minor discrepancy in the seizure memo date, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction. The Court held that when viewed holistically, the complete chain of circumstantial evidence—including the fingerprint, recovered items, and other factors—proved guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The appeal was dismissed."
